How are gases exchanged in a sponge?

Sponges lacks respiratory system.
The water which comes inside the body of sponge through ostia which has dissolved oxygen in it is directly utilised by the cells and carbon dioxide is ejected out.

Hence water conduction system plays an important role in respiration in sponges.
