Muscular dystrophy is of various types in all of which there is gradual wasting of muscles. Affected individuals die as young adults due to weakening of breathing muscles. All forms are inherited.
Explanation:
Most common of all these diseases is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy; it is inherited as a recessive gene linked to X chromosome.
Hence almost all victims are male who receive the disease by inheriting the wrong allele through carrier mother's X chromosome.
