Nucleon number is the number of protons plus the number of neutrons.

The nucleon number, commonly referred to as A, does not lead to any particular properties in and of themselves except for identifying isotopes of different atoms. For example, uranium has 92 protons in any form, but it may have 140, 141, 142, 143, 144, or 146 neutrons. These isotopes have nucleon number of 232, 233, 234, 235, 236, and 238 (respectively).
