State support of Buddhism

Explanation:

Ashoka is mainly known for two things: state support of Buddhism and his Rock and Pillar Edicts (which go hand in hand).
Through the use of his Edicts, he spread the message of nonviolence throughout his empire. After being in the military and seeing violence firsthand, Ashoka was inspired to commit to a life of peace and nonviolence. He unified almost all of India under one religion: Buddhism. He was also very tolerant of other religions, and allowed prosperity.
