Prior to the American Revolution each European nation establishing colonies in the Americas sought to use indigenous people as allies. That exploited previous tribal differences and animosities in some cases, and in others it created conflicts where none had previously existed.

The economic triangle including the African slave trade introduced the unwilling African immigrant whose status was less than a Native American's. The Native Americans had little real relationship with African slaves. Even centuries later the oppression and impacts of Native Americans and Africans are separate issues.
