Explanation:

The mountainous and hilly layout of the Greek peninsula made travel and communication very difficult to perform. Consequently, this led to the creation of city-states, cities that were independent, thus leading to not a whole Greek nation, but sprinkles of different peoples of different nationalities. One would be Spartan, the other Athenian, and the other a Thebeian. Greece's geography essentially separated its people.
