Lavoisier is considered to be one of the pioneers of chemistry as a quantitative physical science......

Explanation:

Lavoisier placed enormous emphasis on experiment, and developed chemistry as a quantitative science. Some of his research established and recognized: oxygen gas and its role in combustion; the rejection of phlogiston theory; and the importance of quantitative measurement.

Importantly, he established the idea of conservation of mass in a chemical reaction. And the poor old fellow was guillotined at age 50!

One of his students was Éleuthère Irénée du Pont de Nemours, who later founded what became the duPont chemical company, which was originally a gunpowder manufacturer.
