The surrender process took a lot longer in the Pacific as large areas were still under Japanese control. General MacArthur also wanted delay occupation until after the signing ceremony on September 2.

Explanation:

One of the consequences is that Japanese troops were used to keep order well after fighting had stopped. August 14th was the day that Japan surrendered the Peace Treaty wasn't signed until September 2nd, 1945.

The time delay caused problems and bad feelings among the occupied territories.

In Europe the German Army was pretty much over run and the surrender process was rapid.
