The Treaty of Nanjing was the first unequal treaty China signed with Britain.

Explanation:

The Treaty of Nanjing was the treaty that ended the Opium Wars with China against Britain. Entailed in the treaty was that China must cede Hong Kong over to Britain as well as a "fair" tariff that wasn't so fair. After this point the bigger powers such as Britain and the U.S. began to take advantage of China in more policies such as the Open Door Policy.
