The thinkers of the enlightment were generaly opposed to slavery, they were influenced by philosophical liberalism. Some like Voltaire actually owned slaves and yet some opposed slavery and did not abolish it when they had the opportunity to do it, notably in the USA. Thomas Jefferson did not indeed abolish slavery though he forbade slave importation.
