See a solution process below:

Explanation:

First, convert the mixed numbers to a decimal:

#8 1/2 => 8 + 1/2 => 8 + 0.5 => 8.5#

#9 3/4 => 9 + 3/4 => 9 + 0.75 => 9.75#

"Percent" or "%" means "out of 100" or "per 100",

Therefore

  • 8.5% can be written as #8.5/100#

  • 9.75% can be written as #9.75/100#

Now, divide each numerator by 100, or, in other words, move the decimal point 2 places to the left:

#8 1/2% => 8.5/100 => 0.085#

#9 3/4% => 9.75/100 => 0.0975#
