# How do solve the following linear system?: 4x=-11+y , y=-6x-9 ?

Mar 10, 2018

$x = - 2$
$y = 3$

#### Explanation:

$4 x = - 11 + y$

$\implies 4 x + 11 = y$

And

$- 6 x - 9 = y$

As both are equal to y , they should be equal.

$4 x + 11 = - 6 x - 9$

$\implies 4 x + 6 x = - 9 - 11$

$\implies 10 x = - 20$

$\implies x = - 2$

Now put this value in any one of the equation to get value of $y .$

$y = - 6 x - 9$

$\implies y = - 6 \left(- 2\right) - 9$

$\implies y = 12 - 9$

$\implies y = 3$

Hope it helps :)
