Via substitution

You have two equations:

$x = 4y -16$ & $x -2y = 8$

Because $x$ and $y$ are in both equations we can substitute one into the other.

Substitute the first equation into the second:

$(4y -16) - 2y = 8$

Now group your $y$ terms:

$-16 + 2y = 8$

Now solve for $y$ :

$2y = 24$ $->$ $y = 24/2$ $->$ $y = ...$ You do the rest!
