The solution is:
$y=3$

$x=14$

$color(blue)(-x)+3y=-5$ .......equation $(2)$

Solving by elimination:

Adding equations $1$ and $2$ :

$cancelcolor(blue)(x)-2y=8$
$cancelcolor(blue)(-x)+3y=-5$

$y=3$

Finding $x$ from equation $1$ :

$x-2y=8$

$x=8 +2y$

$x=8 +2 xx 3$

$x=8 +6$

$x=14$
