Bigger and Denser.

Explanation:

They become much more massive and denser as they rearrange themselves between forms. Sun will burn all it's hydrogen in 4.5 Billion years and turn into a Red Giant where it'll burn helium for a few million years but converting helium to carbon is a very unstable reaction, it has to be very fast, which means it requires greater density of helium.
