Africa is a very corrupt continent. A mix of the most poorest countries in the world. But the land itself contains abundant supplies of precious materials i.e. diamonds. So why is it so poor???
Well, unlike Many western nations, The countries of Africa lack effective and fair government systems which can enforce laws on its citizens. Because of this "anarchy", if you will, there are many groups of terrorists and pirates running rampant throughout Africa, challenging the governments that actually exist, creating an endless timeline of war, which causes poverty and famine. The groups will often capture people from villages they ransack to use as slaves in order to try and find the diamonds themselves. The movie "Blood Diamond" represents this situation very well.
So, in conclusion, without an effective and fair government, the individual nations cannot prosper, even though they are literally on top of precious materials.
