Cut the leaf in half, across the leaf and look for organization

Explanation:

By making a cross section of the leaf:
Netted venation is going to look like chaos because the veins are going out and branching. This is like a maple leaf venation. Picture cutting a maple leaf in half and looking at the cut.
Parallel is going to have a large dot in the center if there is a large central vein and smaller dots on either side, relatively in a row. This because the venation is parallel and if you cut parallel lines you get paralleled dots.
