you have to equalize the fractions

Explanation:

#9 1/5 + 8 2/25#

multiply the denominator and the nominator of one of the fraction by a number that equals to the other fraction's denominator only, it does't matter if its nominator is not equal

==> #9 5/25 + 8 2/25#

and now add

==> #= 17 7/25#

make sure to simplify it afterword if it needed
