# How do you add two polynomials if they don't have like terms?

Feb 19, 2015

You can't. If there are no like terms, you have simply to joint the two pplynomials.

E.G.:

${x}^{5} - 7 {x}^{3} + 5 x$
${x}^{7} - 2 {x}^{2} + 5$

Their sum is:

${x}^{7} + {x}^{5} - 7 {x}^{3} - 2 {x}^{2} + 5 x + 5$.
