# How do you apply the "product of powers" property to simplify expressions?

Dec 30, 2014

The product of powers rule states that when multiplying two powers with the same base, add the exponents.

Examples:

${a}^{m} \cdot$${a}^{n}$ = ${a}^{m + n}$

${5}^{2} \cdot$${5}^{4}$ = ${5}^{2 + 4}$ = ${5}^{6}$

${y}^{6} \cdot$${y}^{2}$ = ${y}^{6 + 2}$ = ${y}^{8}$

${2}^{3} \cdot$${2}^{5} \cdot$${2}^{6}$ = ${2}^{3 + 5 + 6}$ = ${2}^{14}$
