How do you calculate the sample range, sample mean, sample median, sample variance, and sample standard deviation of 18, 19, 34, 38, 24, 18, 22, 51, 44, 14, 29?

This is pretty much “plug-and-chug” from the known formulas.

Explanation:

I will leave it to you to do the actual calculations. They are not too difficult with a calculator.

Sample RANGE : The spread (distance or value) from the lowest to the highest value in the sample.

Sample MEAN : The arithmetic average of all of the sample values.

Sample MEDIAN : The value at the midpoint of the ordered set of sample values. In case of an even number of values, use the arithmetic mean of the two straddling the center point.

Sample VARIANCE : The difference of the sample values from the sample mean – used to calculate the standard deviation later.

Sample STANDARD DEVIATION : The square root of the sample variance.
