Explanation:

Both #mg# and #g# represents some mass. Therefore it is easy to convert between both of them.

The #g# stands from gram in both units. The #m# stand for milli, so we get milligram. This means that this is #1/1000# gram.

1 gram consists of 1000 mg. So if we want to convert gram to mg, we multiply the amount of gram with 1000.

So for example, 5 grams gives 5000 mg.

In the image below, a stair is drawn with the units. We can see #g# in the middle and #mg# at the right end. Now every step we take we have to do the action that is written with it.

So if you go to the right down, we have to multiply the number with 10. If you go up, you have to divide it by 10.

To get from #g# to #mg# we have to do 3 times the #xx10#, thus:
#10xx10xx10=1000#
So in one step you can multiply the #g# with 1000 to get the #mg#.
