Polygons are shapes with 3 or more straight sides, are closed, and do not have overlapping sides. Most shapes are polygons like:
- triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, etc.
There are only a couple named shapes that are not polygons like:
These shapes are all not polygons because they have curved sides.
There are more irregular shapes that are also non-polygons:
These are not polygons for various reasons. Some of them have sides that aren't closed, some have curved sides, and one has overlapping sides.
