Explanation:

Polygons are shapes with 3 or more straight sides, are closed, and do not have overlapping sides. Most shapes are polygons like:

  • triangles, squares, rectangles, pentagons, hexagons, octagons, etc.

There are only a couple named shapes that are not polygons like:

These shapes are all not polygons because they have curved sides.

These are not polygons for various reasons. Some of them have sides that aren't closed, some have curved sides, and one has overlapping sides.
