Keep the negative sign...
#-24# is the answer.

However, this is actually adding: #(-10) + (-14) = -24#

We are asked to find the difference, which means subtract the two number, so it should be:

#(-10) - (-14)#

#-10+14#

#=4#

It is easy to understand this if you look at these two numbers on a number line, they are 4 numbers away from each other.
