# How do you find three consecutive integers whose sum is 42?

If we represent the smallest of the three consecutive integers as $x$ then the other two integers are $\left(x + 1\right)$ and $\left(x + 2\right)$

We are told
$\left(x\right) + \left(x + 1\right) + \left(x + 2\right) = 42$

$\rightarrow 3 x + 3 = 42$

$\rightarrow 3 x = 39$

$\rightarrow x = 13$

and the three consecutive integers are 13, 14, and 15.
