# How do you identify outliers when displaying data in a boxplot?

Outliers occur when outside the range of $Q 1 - 1.5 \left(I Q R\right)$ and $Q 3 + 1.5 \left(I Q R\right)$, where $I Q R$ means Interquartile range, or the third quartile minus the first quartile. $Q 1$ is the first quartile and $Q 3$ is the third quartile.
