We must follow the order of operations, PEMDAS.

First target the expression inside the parentheses, x+4.

This cannot be simplified inside the parentheses so move out the parentheses to complete the distribution of the factor 3, which is also implied multiplication.

3(x+4)-6

3x+12-6
