How do you simplify #(x^4 +8x^2- 1) -(x^2-3x^3+ x^4)#?

Add all your like terms together so x^4+x^4 is 2x^4, 8x^2-x^2 is 7x^2, -3x^3 doesn't have a like term, and neither does -1, so now you have 2x^4+7x^2-3x^3-1 which is the final answer because you can't combine anymore if they have different exponets
