When you have an equation which has only ONE fraction on each side, you can get rid of the fractions by cross-multiplying.

$2/(7d+16) = 7/9$

$7(7d+16) = 2xx 9$

$49d +112 = 18$

$49d = 18-112 = -94$

$d = -94/49$

$d = -1 45/49$
