I usually solve equations like this by cross multiplying.

I would first multiply 6 and x with 2 and 10:
#6*x=2*10#

I then simplify:
#6x=20#

To isolate the variable, I would then divide by 6 on both sides:
#(6x)/6=20/6#

The 6's on the left would cancel out giving you:
#x=20/6#

You can then simplify #20/6# by dividing 2 in the numerator and denominator:
#(20/6)/(2/2)#

Giving you the answer:
#x=10/3#
