Cube both sides
Subtract 1 from both sides

Given: #root(3)(x + 1) + 5 = 3#

Subtract 5 from both sides:

#root(3)(x + 1) + 5 -5 = 3 -5#

#root(3)(x + 1) = -2#

Cube both sides:

#(root(3)(x + 1))^3 = (-2)^3#

#x + 1 = -8#

Subtract 1 from both sides:

#x + 1 - 1 = -8-1#
