# How do you solve the following system?: 4x +y =12 , 6x +5y = -2

Jun 12, 2018

$x = \frac{31}{7} , y = - \frac{40}{7}$
Multiplying the first equation by $- 5$ and adding 5to the sond we get
$- 14 x = - 62$ so $x = \frac{31}{7}$
plugging this in the first equiation to compute $y$
$y = 12 - 4 \cdot \frac{31}{7}$
$y = - \frac{40}{7}$
