The solution for the system of equations is

$2 x + y = - 8$ $color(blue)(2x) +y=-8$ .....equation $(2)$ $(2)$

Solving by elimination.

Subtracting $2$ $2$ from $1$ $1$ :

$2 x + 7 y = 4$ $color(blue)(2x) +7y=4$

$- 2 x - y = + 8$ $-color(blue)(2x) -y=+8$

$6 y = 12$ $6y=12$

$y = \frac{12}{6}$ $y=12/6$

$y = 2$ $color(blue)(y=2$

Finding $x$ $x$ from equation $1$ $1$
