# How do you solve the system 3y=x-1 and x-2y=2?

In one of the equations you "translate" one into the other, then fill that in in the second equation.

$3 x = x - 1 \to x = 3 y + 1$

$x - 2 y = 2 \to \left(3 y + 1\right) - 2 y = 2 \to y = 1$

$x = 3 y + 1 = 3 \cdot 1 + 1 = 4$
