# How do you solve the system x + y = 6 and x = y + 2?

Isolate one variable in one equation and then substitute it in the other one.

$x = 6 - y$

Now, substitute the value found, in the first equation, for $x$, in the second equation:

$6 - y = y + 2$
$4 = 2 y$
$y = 2$

If $y = 2$ and $x = 6 - y$, then $x = 4$
