# How do you solve the system y = 5x − 2 and y = 2x + 10?

May 30, 2015

y = 5x − 2.....equation $\left(1\right)$
$y = 2 x + 10$.....equation $\left(2\right)$

substituting equation $\left(1\right)$ in equation $\left(2\right)$
$y = 2 x + 10$
5x − 2 = 2x+10
$3 x = 12$
$x = 4$

substituting the value of $x$ in equation $\left(1\right)$ to find $y$:
y = 5x − 2
$y = 5 \times 4 - 2$
$y = 18$

the solutions are color(red)(x = 4 , y = 18
