$x-5y=-2$ --- (1)
$-7x-4y=14$ --- (2)

From (1),

$x-5y=-2$
$x=5y-2$ --- (3)

Sub (3) into (2)

$-7(5y-2)-4y=14$
$-35y+14-4y=14$
$-39y=0$
$y=0$ --- (4)

Sub (4) into (3)
$x=5y-2$
$x=0-2$
$x=-2$
