How do you write the net ionic equation for the complete molecular equation? 3 BaCl2 (aq) + 2 (NH4)3PO4 (aq) --> Ba3(PO4)2 (s) + 6 NH4Cl (aq) ______(aq) + ______(aq) --> _______(s) Symbol of positive spectator ion: Symbol of negative spectator ion:

Write positive reactant ion in first blank and negative reactant ion in second blank; and don't forget to include the number of each ion as well as the chemical ion symbol and charge.

#Ba^(2+) + HPO_4^(2-) rarr BaHPO_4(s)darr#

Explanation:

In general, #PO_4^(3-)# is NOT observed in aqueous solution. Its bisphosphates TEND to be insoluble as well....anyway, you will have to consult your A level teacher or prof for confirmation.....

The ammonium sticks around as #NH_4^+#; the chloride ion sticks around as #Cl^-#. The fact that the phosphate is delivered as its ammonium salt, also makes it UNLIKELY that it speciates to #PO_4^(3-)#.

PS I would be interested in the feedback you get from your teacher with regard to this answer.....
