How does color coding of capacitors differ from resistors?

There is no* difference for the first three bands of color.

The fifth** band or dot in case of capacitors, if printed, identifies the voltage rating class and temperature coefficient characteristics.

Explanation:

*Except that in case of capacitors the value is in picofarad, pF whereas for resistors the value is in ohm #Omega#.

The fourth** band (or dot for capacitors) indicates the tolerance.
