Bonds, Bonds, Bonds.

Explanation:

Melting:

  • Solid to a liquid
  • Bonds in solid are broken by heat energy that is absorbed until that substance reaches its melting point (the temperature a substance becomes a liquid).

Evaporation:

  • Liquid to a gas
  • For molecules of a liquid to evaporate, they must have sufficient kinetic energy (provided by heat) to overcome intermolecular forces holding the molecules of the liquid together
  • Only then can the atoms float around, enjoying life as a gas
