# How does scientific notation appear on a calculator?

Apr 10, 2016

$x$$\times$${10}^{x}$

#### Explanation:

$x$ is any number

If $x$$=$$1$

$1$$\times$${10}^{1}$$=$$10$

If $x$$=$$15$

$1.5$$\times$${10}^{1}$ or just $1.5$$\times$$10$

for numbers with more than one digit, in scientific notation the first number is a whole number while the rest are in the decimal system. e.g. 100 becomes 1.00 or just 1.
