The Liver is the chemical factory of the human body. Because it creates, filters and stores necessary for the blood to function it actually has it's own blood supply from the Aorta, through the Hepatic Artery.

The Liver store about 1/6 of the blood at any time.
The Liver creates and stores the clotting factors of the blood both the coagulents and anti-coagulents.
The Liver filters most chemicals from the blood including Alcohol.
The Liver stores Iron as well as vitamins A, B12, D, and K.
The Liver maintains sugars by storing Glycogen.
The Liver processes fats primarily in the form of cholesterol.
