Freezing point depression is a so-called colligative property....


And it depends on the number of species in solution. And thus a solution made from a solute #MX# that IONIZES in solution to give 2 discrete ions in solution, #M^+# and #X^-#, will give rise to a colligative property TWICE that of a molecular solute.
