We reject null hypothesis if p-value is less than \alpha

Explanation:

p-value = probability that an event (as extreme as current sample) occurs when null hypothesis is true. The lower is this probability, the more unlikely it is that the null is true.

\alpha = significance level that a researcher sets before conducting the test. \alpha = probability of type 1 error.
