In Hydrologic Cycle, we formulate water balance with the following formula:

Change = Precipitation + Inflow - Evaporation - Transpiration - Outflow

In summer months, Southern Europe gets little precipitation. But evaporation and transpiration are high since days are longer, there is a lot of sunshine, agricultural products request water, people tend to consume more water (bathing, drinking, etc.) etc. Therefore, there is an imbalanced situation. During summer months (as well as some spring and autumn months), we see rivers dry up, lakes loose water, some wells become dry. In some cities in Turkey (located in the Mediterranean Region), they have to carry water via tankers.
