Mitosis involves duplicating everything in the cell, including all the organelles, splitting it along the middle, and then dividing into two separate cells. It's pretty much cloning the one cell by making a mirror image of it. Meiosis, which involves more specialization because the DNA actually changes, and that process ends up with four child cells at the end.
