Well #"1 US gallon"-=3.785*L#.......

Explanation:

And #"1 Imperial gallon"-=4.546*L#......

How do you know whether you are dealing with US or or Imperial gallons? You got me. If you are in the States, clearly is it US gallons....if you live in part of the former British commonwealth it is Imperial Gallons.....

And do you remember the old tongue twister....?

#"Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers...."#

A peck is apparently 2 gallons.... As a chemist I am happy to stick with metric measurements. Can you imagine how confused we would get if we quoted concentration as #"moles per pint"# or #"moles per gallon"#. For start we would have to specify our unit of volume. There was a humorous piece written by a physicist, who quoted the speed of light in furlongs per fortnight.
