How many types of membrane proteins are there and what do they do?

Two types;
Intrinsic and extrinsic.
Both have similar functions. As the phospholipid bilayer does not allow polar molecules and big molecules to pass in or out of the cell, these proteins act as path for active transport and facilitated diffusion as well.
