It's all about the frame of reference.

Explanation:

Consider your position in the plane. Does it's velocity relative to the earth have any relevance to your velocity (and the coin) relative to the plane?

Then apply Newton's Laws of Motion normally. Further discussion will be needed to satisfy the question requirements.

At the moment the coin is thrown vertically by a person sitting in an airplane moving with high speed it gains a vertical velocity of projection (for throwing force ) as well as a horizontal velocity due to inertia of motion achieved from the speed of the airplane.

During the time of flight of the coin it covers the same horizontal distance as the person or the plane covers, since the horizontal velocity of the coin remains unaltered ( same as the speed of the plane) during its time of flight.

But if the airplane gets accelerated or decelerated during the time of flight of the coin, the returning of coin at the position of projection would not occur.
