# If sec theta = 4, how do you use the reciprocal identity to find cos theta?

Oct 26, 2014

$\sec \theta = 4$

by the trig identity $\sec \theta = \frac{1}{\cos \theta}$,

$\frac{1}{\cos \theta} = 4$

by taking the reciprocal,

$\cos \theta = \frac{1}{4}$.

I hope that this was helpful.
